Summer in Crested Butte
Crested Butte is located in the heart of
some of the most beautiful and dramatic mountains in Colorado, and is
known for its fantastic biking, hiking, four-wheeling,
wildflowers, wildlife viewing, fly fishing and much more. Summer
weather is generally sunny and dry, pleasant for all outdoor activities.
Crested Butte is considered one of the
birthplaces of Colorado mountain biking, offering hundreds of miles of singletrack riding;
ride above alpine through the wildflowers, through dense groves of aspen
and lush green valleys. There are trails for all ability levels,
including a paved bike path connecting Mount Crested Butte with the Town
of Crested Butte. June brings the country's longest running
mountain bike festival - the Annual Fat Tire Bike Week. The
festival attracts all skill levels and ages of riders--even
newcomers--for guided tours, instructional clinics, a chainless
downhill, a bike rodeo, races, crazy stunts, and more.
Summer is wildflower heaven in Crested
Butte, the "Wildflower Capital of Colorado." The annual
Wildflower Festival features daily hikes, art and photography
classes, cooking classes, garden tours and nightly lectures.
The popular month-long Crested Butte
Music Festival in July covers the range from Symphony, Chamber, Pops,
Bluegrass, and Jazz, to Ballet. There are often free children’s concerts.
Free concerts are part of the Alpenglow Concert Series at the Center for
the Arts outdoor stage. Also enjoy plays and performances at the Crested Butte Mountain Theater.
Crested Butte's 4th of July Celebration
is one of the town's premier events of the year. A joyful parade
fills downtown with color, excitement and a friendly block-long waterfight, followed by a grand
fireworks display.

August brings the annual Festival of
the Arts, one of the summer’s biggest
weekends attracting artists and craftspersons from across the country
and throughout the region plus local artisans. Come for a week in August
for the Reel Fest film festival.
Then, there's fishing in the many alpine
lakes and streams, exploring Colorado's rich mining history, horseback
riding, rafting on the Gunnison, and great golfing - at this
elevation your drives go farther!
