About Crested Butte

The Crested Butte valley is a gem in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Located near the center of Colorado, it is off the beaten path yet accessible from everywhere.

Crested Butte offers a wide variety of recreational activities in all seasons. Plus there's great shopping and dining (no chain restaurants here!). And the list of cultural offerings is incredible for such a true small town.

The area retains its mining era charm and historical Victorian ambiance. It is a world class vacation destination drawing visitors from around the globe to enjoy stunning mountain views, hospitality, sunshine, snow, biking, hiking, skiing, fishing, you name it!

Some years ago there was this advertising slogan: "Crested Butte -- what Aspen used to be, and Vail never was." Aspen and Vail didn't like it much, but it summed things up pretty well. What locals call "The Butte" is widely known as "the last great Colorado ski town."

Ski season is a big draw and there are festivals all year round. Whether you come to Crested Butte in winter, spring, summer or fall, you'll find lots of things to do. It's also a great place to just sit back and relax.

Whatever activities you pursue in Crested Butte, just remember to stay well-hydrated, wear high SPF sunscreen year-round, and, if you're from the flatlands, give yourself some time to adjust to the altitude.  The elevation at Ravenwood House in Mt. Crested Butte is about 9300 feet.
